News Image

Samyang Optics introduced its long-awaited XP 14mmF2.4 and XP 85mm F1.2 premium lenses at Photokina 2016. These XP (for Excellence in Performance) manual focus lenses are equipped with the most advanced optical technology. The resolving power contains abundant light information, allowing photographers the freedom to create unique images in post-production. Also, the minimised aberration enhances clarity, creating more impressive images than your eyes can see. Lens design is sleek, with flowing curves in robust aluminium alloy metal, and generous diameter of 95mm. The XP 14mm F2.4 takes no compromises. It has 18 glass elements in 14 groups including six glasses of four different special optics. The lens is designed to maximize the resolution and minimize the distortion. This optimal performance, great for landscapes, creates impressive image quality from centre to corner of image. Especially, the refractive lenses effectively adjust the path of light and deliver maximum amount to the sensor for a clear and vibrant image. The F1.2 of 85mm is, by far, the brightest lens of the full frame DSLR lenses, securing the fast shutter speed. It's ideal for portraits - with beautiful bokeh, creamy background and extremely high resolution capturing the fine details of the model. It has ten elements in seven groups with three special glasses. Samyang R&D selected the elements and number of glasses with the utmost prudence to deliver excellence in performance even with the bright F1.2 system. NEW! Zeiss Loxia 2.4/85

Zeiss Loxia now also in the telephoto range. The fourth Loxia lens for mirrorless full-frame cameras with E mount is called Zeiss Loxia 2.4/85. The inconspicuous observer, this lens is portable and powerful.

News Image

The Loxia 2.4/85 is the youngest member of Zeiss's manual focus lens family for Sony α7 series cameras: a tele joining the other three lenses - Loxia 2.8/21, Loxia 2/35 and Loxia 2/50 – in the series. These compact Loxia lenses are the ideal choice for travel and street photographers who value light and compact camera equipment. The Loxia 2.4/85 fits perfectly with the existing focal lengths, and is particularly well suited for portrait photography. With its seven lens elements in seven groups it's been designed for digital sensors and is based on an optimized Zeiss Sonnar design. Minimum object distance is 0.80m. The manual focus ring has a rotation angle of 220 degrees and enables the subtlest variations of focusing. The large aperture of f/2.4 combined with the high-quality optical design ensures an appealing bokeh. The Loxia 2.4/85 is also ideally suited for filming. The well-known de-click function is on board. This allows for mechanically deactivating the click stops on the aperture ring — a condition for silent and infinite adjustments of the aperture. As a result, the Loxia 2.4/85 is also an attractive lens for video cameras that have an E mount, such as the Sony PXW-FS7 and PXW-FS5. The overall package comprises a robust metal barrel, the filter diameter of M52 (which is identical across all focal lengths) and protection against penetration of dust and spray onto the lens mount. In addition, the external diameter, which is uniform across all Loxia lenses, simplifies film shoots. (January 2017)
